It really takes someone unfamiliar with the City to find the name "Fingers" non-threatening. Roland is ready to admit that it might sound pretty mundane if you're not already familiar with the Syndicates, but still. It's easy, blatant symbolism that everyone reads loud and clear. "We hold the Backstreets in our hands." Or, possibly more relevant to the current situation, given the conflict, "if we close around you, you'll get crushed in our fist".

The Reverberation Ensemble entering the Library of their own will was extremely not in the plans.

"War council time," Roland called. "What do we do now?"
"None of us can stand up to them," Hokma pointed out. "Even if several of us teamed up together..."
"Divide and conquer," Gebura cut him. "I'm confident every single Floor can handle one of them, maybe two. Let's force them to split."
"They will regret intruding," Tiphereth scowled.

Binah is content observing the fights on her Floor without stepping in. Outside the frenzy of battle, the full picture is way easier to see, and she appreciates how fitting it is.

Humans locked in a life or death dance, feet moving over a tiled road, unable to comprehend the immensity of the stars surrounding them. Such a perfect metaphor of humanity, always trying to force the world into a shape it understands and controls, and dying without accepting the unknown.

It is highly ironic, Gebura thinks, that Little Red Riding Hooded Mercenary is the one providing the Librarians with the means to mark a target as the prey to hunt. Given her obsession with killing the Wolf, it seems normal, but when faced with her nightmare and potential allies she hasn't been able to focus her rage, attacking wildly instead of staying in control. But maybe this isn't about actions but about concepts, for all Gebura knows.

"What the– Angela?" Roland called out, ignored under the shaking of the building and the fire wrapped around Angela.
"I don't think we can reason with her anymore," Malkuth pointed out, frowning. "Seems like I pushed her to her limit."
"I didn't even know she had a limit! It's not the first time discussions got heated around her!"
"Yes but... maybe it's the first time someone said something true enough to genuinely land, don't you think?"

Tenma doesn't like seeing her Director getting hurt, again and again, but she also knows she can't do more than what she's already struggling with. Their Section of the Shi is on the brink of extermination, and it really shouldn't be that way, not with how skilled their members are.

It's deliberate. But Tenma trusts Director Yujin to wrestle power back from the hands of those who'd sacrifice their subordinates with no care. She'll help.

"So there is something above even Stars of the City," Angela commented.
"Yeah," Roland sighed. "Most of the time, Stars fall. But sometimes a more dire warning is necessary. And given that the Library just brushed off a frontal assault from the Liu, it's no wonder that this is the Hana's response."
"Impuritas Civitatis... I don't like being once again treated as something inherently wrong."
"Star was more poetic but already a target."

The frozen train doesn't descend into chaos. Panic, yes, that comes fast, and Elena steps into the role of gentle but confident reassurance.

Chaos is more of a slow but ineluctable slide.

Elena doesn't even have to push, really. Given enough time –and they have close to an eternity– things will fall into place on their own. She still mentions how wagon after wagon is lost to madness, and savors the rising fear. She won't have to wait long.

Even knowing of the events in the WARP train, seeing Tomerry stand in the Library was chilling. They cut a horrifying and pitiful figure, towering over everyone but not knowing themselves.

It was a rare time when Roland would consider a Reception a mercy kill. It was too late for Tommy, for Merry, too late by thousands of years already, so if the only thing he could do to stop this nightmare was offering them death, then so be it.

Knowing that Angela is, well, a bunch of lines of code doesn't sit well with Roland. He might not be a computer scientist, but he's been around long enough to know folks using pretty complex bits of software, and she's not it. She's...

She's too flawed. Yes, she's made of metal and has perfect memory, but she's also petty, easy to anger, curious, and hungry for life. She's human, in her mind if not her body. Her choices are her own.
