This time, thanks to accommodating guides (nephews), we also got to spend a bit more time up in Dublin in the #Liberties (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Liberties,_Dublin), guided round by our literary fam to see some venerable, artsy and edgy sights new to us. Sort of a local Bohemian Quarter these days.

Among other things we spent some time in "Hell," a #Liberties 🇮🇪 Four Corners location. Much nicer nowadays than it sounds. It was named… maybe… for the original locale of the Four Courts including the Republic's Supreme Court (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Courts), before they moved to the prominent domed courthouses just north of the Liffey.

Quando si sente dire che l’allievo supera il maestro, di solito è una buona notizia. In questo caso, tutto il contrario. Perché il maestro è Viktor Orbán, l’allieva Giorgia Meloni, e lo sport in cui si sfidano consiste nello “smantellare” la democrazia.

È questo il succo del nuovo rapporto di Liberties, rete che unisce gli sforzi di tante organizzazioni della società civile e che per un altro anno evidenzia una verità ormai inoppugnabile. La deriva autoritaria, in Europa, c’è davvero. E c’è soprattutto in Bulgaria, Croazia, Slovacchia, Ungheria. E Italia, per l’appunto.

La realtà purtroppo la conosciamo benissimo.

Intimidazioni contro i giornalisti. Criminalizzazione degli attivisti. Politiche discriminatorie a danno dei migranti. Pressioni e attacchi politici contro la magistratura - e per fortuna che abbiamo scongiurato il referendum. Senza parlare delle carceri. Decreti su decreti che non sono serviti a niente, mentre il numero dei detenuti continua a crescere e le loro condizioni a peggiorare.

Proprio dalle nostre celle, in fondo, può prendere spunto l’ormai ex maestro Orbán. Celle allo stremo, ma nonostante questo circondate dall’indifferenza. Il sogno di ogni autocrate. Lo specchio peggiore di una deriva che dobbiamo fermare al più presto
