Following this as an experienced intelligence analyst, my reading of the evolution of this story--from last night's report in Al Jazeera directly quoting a U.S. government source who likely just repeated verbatim the reporting they were receiving from the military professionals leading the operation: "recovered," through the initial propaganda and later hedging by a president with a well-earned reputation as #LiarInChief--is that the individual is in fact deceased; Trump chose last night to transform it into an unqualified success (because he knows that he's losing bigly & desperately NEEDS one), and cooler heads in the hothouse subsequently convinced him to hedge a little so it can later be reported that the servicemember "tragically died from their injuries," as an explanation to the grieving family for why they're getting a flag-draped coffin back rather than their loved one.
