One of the most crucial skills any author needs to learn is recognizing how they write a first draft. If you are a super planner with a really clean first draft, awesome! If you underwrite and need to add details in Draft 2, do that! If you meander a lot, learn to refocus.

If you think publishing is writing a book in one draft, running spellcheck, and then hitting Publish on Amazon... please talk to an author and ask them about publishing. I promise, it takes more work than that to get a good book.
Writing Tip Of The Day: If you're planning to publish it helps to have a file where you can drop pull quotes into. While you're editing grab the lines that stand out to you so you can use them for promo later.
How you end chapters (and your book!) helps determine what genre your book is. Endings of sentences, scenes, chapters, and books all add weight to the thought and emotion they end on. If you keep ending on questions, it's a mystery. If you end with fear, it's horror.
Part of being a successful adult is making time to reset, refuel, and recharge.
When you're working, take hourly break to stretch, hydrate, rest your eyes. Take several daily breaks to get food, refuel the brain, and do something not work related. Take weekly breaks from work.

Unless there is a lot of money on the table or some other demonic deadline, don’t lose sleep over writing. It’s not healthy. There’s no advantage to stressing yourself out and making yourself miserable while writing a book.
