#TfL has issued the latest tender documents for bus routes 158, 58, 55, 56, W19, W16, 397 and 275 serving #Walthamstow and surrounding areas. The contracts outline revised service specifications, vehicle requirements and performance targets, with most agreements operating on incentivised terms. Several routes include options for reduced daytime frequencies, while operators are required to consider driver welfare facilities in submissions.
Routes 55 and 56 begin new contracts in March 2025, with Route 55 continuing to use existing New Routemaster vehicles. Routes 158 and 275 start in February 2026 with mandatory pricing for new and zero-emission buses. Smaller single-deck vehicles remain required on routes W16, W19 and 397 due to road and bridge restrictions. TfL also highlighted operational risks including congestion, bridge weight limits and delays around Walthamstow, #Leytonstone and East Ham.
