In this series of 3 blog posts we will explain how OpenJDK project Leyden is helping to improve a specific area of performance where Java has notably lagged behind other languages i.e. application ‘startup’, ‘warmup’, and ‘initial footprint’. Part 1 explains what those terms mean and why Java faces challenges in matching the behaviour of other languages.
