Ukrainian mathematician, Volodymyr Levytsky was born on December 31, 1872. He headed the National Academy of Sciences, and authored the first work on higher mathematics in Ukrainian (1893). Levytsky also taught mathematics at the Secret Ukrainian University, between 1920-1925.
