“Would you like to dance?” said Lady Corlain appearing by Miralees’ side.

“I don’t know your dances,” said Miralees. She felt unsteady from the wine and held on to the back of the chair. “I don’t know any dances really. I’d make a fool of myself.”

She also had the strange idea the older woman was asking if she wanted to dance with her, and that did not seem very likely, not in public anyway. Though Lady Corlain was an attractive woman.

“No matter but we must move out of here so that the staff can clear it all, clean and rearrange everything. We pretend it just happens by magic. Here.” She took Miralees’ hand and placed it on her arm as if she were a gentleman escorting his lady.

Miralees looked behind as they headed out. It was comforting to see Yelantera and Effie there, though the goddess was not smiling.

“You were here when—when I—when it happened?”

“When you came, yes, it was very energetic.”

“Came? Is that the word for it?”

“Paroxysmed, orgasmed, climaxed.”

Rachel was a student of literature, and no doubt had been taught Latin and Ancient Greek. She enjoyed words and appeared to be contemplating the choices available.

She giggled. “To convulse, or to get excited, or—” she hesitated, “—to reach the highest point, I think. The first is accurate but does not communicate the pleasure, the second does not express the rising emotion however the third is a good match. Which do you prefer?”

“Come is simplest.”

Rachel nodded and unconsciously scratched her left breast, scraping her nails across her still firm nipple. She seemed to have forgotten her initial embarrassment.
