>The Lesbian Action Group's Exemption Request: Balancing Rights And Inclusion
>In a move that has sparked debate and raised questions about inclusivity within the LGBTQ+ community, the Lesbian Action Group (LAG) has applied to the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) for a temporary exemption from anti-discrimination laws.

I write this as a 17-years-#PostOp #transwoman [who identifies ideologically wrt sexuality as lesbian but pragmatically as asexual], & i perceive the following as prolly being deeply unpopular with some other "T's". I'm writing simply as a lone post-op transwoman, unsure how other post-op transwomen feel on this specific topic, & acknowledging that my opinion might be utterly discordant with others' [possibly strongly held] opinions. I also acknowledge my unresolved self-contradictions, below.
Fwiw, having watched the interview, i feel that it makes complete logical & emotional sense for "female-born" lesbians wishing to come together to celebrate their journey & achievements, challenges & victories, chew the fat, let off steam, party & have fun, to have free right to do so. Unlike apparently many of their critics, i do not perceive this as the LAG being maliciously discriminatory against transwomen. I reject the apparently popular contemporary proposition that LAG requesting this temporary exemption axiomatically equals transphobia. I fully respect that their life story & journey was different to mine, mine to theirs, & feel that they have a legitimate right to gather in the manner they wish, without them being vilified & accused of discrimination.
If the LAG were being nasty & transphobic, insulting me & mine along the lines of the hateful #RWNJ #ChristoFascists rhetoric, i would feel very differently about this. However, afaik, & certainly at least in so far as the video interview covers, nothing nasty like that seems to be at play here. Whilst personally i passionately crave to be looked on by natal women, straight & lesbian, as a "lesbian who got there by a different pathway to them, but a lesbian nonetheless", i don't know that they do, & i don't wish to cause conflict. I do "get it" that longer-journey women like me might cause them discomfort, & frankly i would not wish to insert myself into private spaces that make others uncomfortable.
All that waffle stated, i am also troubled by my own preceding opinion, as its logical endpoint is that i have argued for my own rejection by & exclusion from women-generally & in this case lesbian-specifically events & spaces. That's the opposite of my desire... yet i continue to respect the LAG's wishes. Bloody hell, gender politics is so damn hard, & i realise that i'm very incompetent at it! 🤯
