En sus últimos años se trasladó a Francia bajo la protección de Francisco I de Francia. Murió en 1519 en Amboise.
La imagen romántica del rey sosteniendo su cabeza en el lecho de muerte es probablemente un mito posterior, pero encaja bien con la leyenda.

Leonardo dejó obras como la La Gioconda y La Última Cena, pero su legado real está en su método: observar sin prejuicio, cuestionarlo todo, unir disciplinas.

No fue un sabio académico.
Fue un hombre que miraba el mundo como si nadie antes lo hubiera mirado.
Y esa forma de mirar sigue siendo peligrosa hoy, porque obliga a pensar por cuenta propia.
