One of those weird coincidences I thought I’d post. I caught an episode of “Rising Damp” on TV today, and it really dawned on me how much I miss this wonderful show. When I Googled it out of interest, I discovered Leonard Rossiter sadly passed away this very night (October 5th) in the wings of London’s Lyric theatre in 1984.
“Rising Damp” was a perfect example of flawless casting in a golden age of comedy, and I sincerely miss it!

RichardWatched a very good #PlayForToday from 1984 that is just as relevant today. The scenario isn't obvious at first, but soon becomes apparent that there exists a specialist who given a phone call will help you put an end to family "problems". The cast put in an excellent performance with well-written dialogue around a central premise. #LeonardRossiter leads this #farce in what would be his own final year of life. Excellent viewing and certainly thought provoking. #BBC #television #drama
Michael Meckler@captainpovey During the summer, BBC Radio 4 Extra rebroadcast the monologues 'In a nutshell' written by Barry Pilton and read by Leonard Rossiter. They are brilliant, and some are eerily relevant today, especially given they were written and performed more than 40 years ago.
Alas the monologues are no longer available on BBC Sounds, but undoubtedly they are worth a listen at the next rebroadcast.
