A Fourth Regional Congress of Peasants, Workers and Insurgents was planned by the #Makhnovshchina #anarchist movement and on #ThisDayInHistory in 1919 #LeonTrotsky banned it with #Bolshevik Order No. 1824 from fear it could spread #libertarian ideas and threaten party domination.

#Bolshevik forces attacked ~26 #anarchist centres in Moscow on #ThisDayInHistory in 1918. At least 40 were killed by #Cheka secret police & 500 arrested. After subsequent attacks, #LeonTrotsky said: "At last the Soviet government, with an iron broom, has rid Russia of Anarchism".

Famed #Mexican painter #DiegoRivera was born on #ThisDayInHistory in 1886. A dedicated #communist and #Trotskyist, he was expelled from the party during the #Stalin years. He hosted #LeonTrotsky at his home along with his wife #FridaKahlo. His murals are all over #MexicoCity.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1927, #LeonTrotsky was formally expelled from the #CommunistParty. He had been a towering figure in the #RussianRevolution and early #USSR, and removing him cleared the way for #JosefStalin to consolidate power. Trotsky was assassinated in Mexico in 1940.
