Cursed Ink trae a España "Legend in the Mist", un juego de rol bastante narrativo con resolución mediante 2d6, con éxitos parciales y etiquetas.

Vi varias reseñas de la versión en inglés. Las etiquetas narrativas molan, al igual que los éxitos con consecuencias, pero no me convence la idea de meter crunch a un Fate / PBTA. Aunque supongo que si te incomoda el efecto hoja en blanco de Fate, está bien tener un libro de 250 páginas con opciones detalladas. Supongo que tiene su público.

Legend in the Mist: Mist Engine may be Fate’s Forged in the Dark

It is in some ways perfect timing that only a month ago I was comparing Fate and Apocalypse World, and looking at their respective destinies. In 2013 the fourth edition of Fate, Fate Core, went from its Kickstarter to legitimately outstanding commercial success. Around the same time, Apocalypse World had just started on its inexorable upward trajectory not due to its own sales numbers but rather the adoption of its underpinnings, Powered by the Apocalypse. Fate would peak in the lead-up to D&D Fifth Edition while PbtA would continue to soar, eventually powering what was at the time the largest TTRPG Kickstarter ever. Both games were successful enough to spawn not only hacks but also derivatives, mechanical cousins of the original game which kept the underlying ideas but altered the core mechanics. Blades in the Dark is the notable one for Powered by the Apocalypse, but there were of course others. For Fate, the same thing happened, even if much of the hacking was further under the radar than what John Harper pulled off on the PbtA side. @stjepanlukac #Symbaroum is a very intriguing setting but #FreeLeague seems to only give it minimal support. I love their products but this almost looks like an abandoned project. I read rumours that they had news about Symbaroum for this year but so far nothing... Maybe I'll just use the setting and try to use #LegendInTheMist rules instead.

#RPGaDay2025 Day 6: Motive

Following up on Day 2: Prompt let's zoom in and look at what motives the Players and their Characters might have.

I may have fallen on love with the aesthetics of Legend in the Mist (from Son of Oak) and its rustic fantasy. Think lower stakes, close to home and interruptions in daily life. Life in Hobbiton. It also touches on the Character, Cult, Community touchstones in Runequest.

Aaaand I may already in broad strokes have outlined motivations. To threaten them are easy as characters will (emphasis WILL) be connected in the community. A favourite niece out fishing didn't come back by evening, discover rotten rafters during roof repair but no lumber in town etc. Inflation.

I've been reading the #LegendInTheMist playtest doc today. Actually I forgot that I'd ever backed it (late pledge) until I got an email about it, though historically that sort of project has produced the best results.

It mirrors a progression I've been having where I like detailed and open ended characters but find most #PbtA a bit much. The tag system looks easy to explain and has a direct link from character detail to action, not mediated via moves. Also more flexible than PbtA playbooks.
