#NowPlaying #MusicWomenWednesday #PunkRock

#TheBeautys were a very drunk but head-screwed-on-right 90s trio out of Fort Wayne, IN led by fearless gtrist & singer Kay Gregg, then known by her stage name Chica Baby. They played raging and infectious surf pop/punk tuneage to a Bill Clinton America that roundly ignored them. No doubt I would've too . . . except #FallingJames of the #LeavingTrains once sent me a mix CDr with a couple of their great songs on it. I've loved them ever since.

The Beautys - Some Things Never Change (Beeb Records, 1998)

I dreamt that ex-#LeavingTrains' Falling James Moreland stopped by to work with my wife on some rap lyrics she’d abandoned way back in the late 80s. I noticed with some trepidation that James' old rhymes referenced Dusty Springfield, but kept my mouth shut - it made me happy to see her at work on music again.

As they worked out on the back porch, a huge pack of black cats appeared at our front door, all doe-eyed, wailing, and seeking a warm home. Mindful of the 3 we already have, I didn't want to let any inside. But one made it around back to start rubbing up against my wife's leg - clearly another housecat was in our destiny. And of course, we'd be naming it Dude.
