Canada's new $25B nation-building projects fund fuels fear of 'back door' oil and gas subsidies
The Canada Strong Fund, the country's first national sovereign wealth fund, has launched to underwrite nation-building projects and enable individual Canadians to invest. Green groups warn it could be another public ‘prop up’ of the fossil fuel industry.
Does anyone have anything good to say about the Sovereign Wealth Fund Carney is crowing about? Usually Sovereign wealth funds transfer money from the rich and corps through the state to the people... esp when using public resources. In Canada's case it appears that the sovereign wealth fund is to move money from avg tax payers TO big corps and the rich to "build things"... and improve the shareholder's bottom line. Hmmmm...
“The Canada Strong Fund is a sovereign wealth fund in name only,” she said. Her organization had issued a report earlier this month calling for a wealth fund modelled after those in place in Norway and Singapore.
“What was announced today is closer to a war bond, with Canadians buying equity in projects the government is already trying to get off the ground,” she said."
