I played through Linnea SQ, and I tried to only rely on the audio and not look at the text.
Usually I always read what’s in the text box while listening because I trust my reading more than my listening level, but this time I had the rule to not read the subtitles at all, and I understood everything quite well!
佩 pèi: ornament worn as a pendant at the waist
This is the first word I learnt while playing Where Winds Meet (because you write your name on a jade pendant 玉佩 at the beginning), and now I saw it in Lan Yan’s demo song title: 环佩琳琅.
Sometimes I wonder if learning character combat voicelines is that useful, but I saw the word 歼灭 (jiānmiè: annihilate, wipe out, destroy) in a novel, and it’s a word I know because, when Ineffa casts her burst, she says 歼灭模式 “annihilation mode”.
So it’s useful after all! 
Oh, this word, 休想 (xiūxiǎng: don’t think that sth is possible/you can…, don’t even dream about doing…), I know it from Xiao’s idle:
荒野上的孤魂，休想伤我分毫。

)
There are some words that, when I see them, I can immediately say where I saw/learnt them for the first time.

I want to get into Wuxia fiction, but reading wuxia novels in Chinese feels daunting, so I thought I’d start with a game, thinking it’d be easier. I tried Where Winds Meet, and this game is incredible!
But it’s really hard to play in Chinese, there’s so many menus and things to do, so I’m making a glossary of terms like region names, martial arts and inner ways, name of quests and collectibles, etc.
Most of the time I don’t know what I’m doing, but the game is stunning

While doing Anki today, I realised I was mixing up two characters, 惶 and 慌, because their meaning and pronunciations are close. No wonder I couldn’t remember the correct tone for any of them.
I use a hint field in Anki for this kind of situation, it’s the best way for me to finally get them right… and I post it here to make it stick even more.

Dessa två ord jag lär mig på Kinesiska driver mig till vansinne:
睫毛 jié mao (ögonfransar)
眉毛 méi máo (ögonbryn)
Notera att båda:
- har med ögonen att göra
- slutar på 毛 (betyder typ hår/päls/frans/lurv)
Men i ena fallet läses 毛 med neutral/femte ton (mao), i andra fallet med stigande/andra ton (máo).
Livet är så svårt ibland.

Every Chinese learner's angst
I always tend to mix up words that I learn at the same time if they have similar pronunciations.
It happened before with 遭逢 zāoféng (meet with, come across) and 交锋 jiāofēng (clash, confront). Pronunciation is not even that similar, but I’m having such a hard time with those two!
And now the same happens with 心虚 xīnxū (be afraid of being found out) and 心绪 xīnxù (state of mind).
The problem is that once I start mixing them up, it gets worse and worse. The only way is to use hints in Anki.
