Last year I learned how to use a #scythe and it’s nuts! The longer and wetter the grass, the better. You can’t see it in the pic, but it’s pouring- I’m wearing a poncho and am happy as anything. And it’s close to silent.

You can buy those, but they are made of cheese and have some weird hitch that only fits the matching cheese trailer and none of mine.
Getting to play with the new cold cut chop saw. It really doesn't like long flat cuts and you can't clamp the piece rotated when cutting mitres. The solution is to clamp it with a spacer so the workpiece ends up further out on the curved part of the blade.

OVERALL:
Pros - Just as good a cut as a gas mower for the same product cost and much less energy cost. Significantly softer noise. A little easier to handle. And zero pollution.
Cons - Have to charge batteries in advance, a smidge less maneuverable, fears about plastic wheels.

My old mower used 1/4 to 1/2 gallon of gas to cut our lawn. In Biden-era pricing that was about $0.60 to $1.19 per cut. In Trump/Iran-era that's more like $1.09 to $2.19 per cut.
The charger used about 500w of electricity (measured with a Sense device) for about an hour. At my local electricity rates, that's about $0.15-0.20 per cut.

Finances:
We paid about $650 for the combination mower and 2nd battery. It was a sale of about $250 off so I'm thinking they're going to discontinue this model soon for an upgrade. This is about what a new gas mower might cost, maybe a little less. They have more expensive models that are larger, designed for larger lawns, and have more features.

The mowing took slightly longer than usual. Some of that might be getting used to the mower. We set the height as high as it would go and I might try 1/2" lower next time.
It was lighter and easier to push, but harder to turn. Also, I worry that the plastic wheels (think Big Wheel back wheels) might wear out too easily.
The 7.5Ah battery was *almost* enough to finish in 60 minutes. I put in the 5Ah battery to finish. Swapping was easy.
