An additional mishap with #LaumasRedCape - there is a dark spot on the hood. Tried spot washing with soapy water and vodka. None of it helps and vodka got pink. But can I trust drycleaning with unlabeled item? I can explain them that top is wool, and lining is silk, but will they listen?

Also, to hell with the dirty roofs of a big city, droping black drops on my cape.

#LaumasRedCape update: I cut my bottom edge patching too short because I didn't knew better, it is the most wonky seam I have ever made, but it is done. And it seems that lining very barely but still is not holding the cape fabric up. So I call it a win and conclude that without majorly redoing everything I can't make it better. It. Must. Suffice.

In other news, I added a big pocket for handwarmers to the new lining, that turned out better.

Now back to #LaumasRedCape. After a lots of thinking I decided that I can't avoid piecing in the missing length. And I will need to wing it heavily. And I will need to do a lots of seam finishing. And I do not have neither skill, nor material for patternmatching. Oh well. Piecing is period, as they say.

I once said that I like doing my #sewing and knitting because it's nice to work on something that doesn't fight you back, at least as hard as a phd thesis did. I was finishing my thesis then.

So. About not fighting back. In my cape lining project I made such a rookie mistake - forgot that leveled bottom edge means that cape must be longer over the shoulders. So now I have beautiful finished lining neatly stitched in everywhere except bottom edge...who is 15cm too short in sides.

Just having a slow, neat progress with my cape lining exchange project. Those small handstitches take time, but look realy neat. Somehow I decided that I really don't want to wriggle 4m of cape around sewing machine. Or just wanted a handstitching project, idk.

Still working on the substitute lining for my cape. First time handling such a slippery silk, I am having rather hard time sewing necessary gathers as neatly as I would like. Also pins are falling out all the time. However, the fabric is incredibly pleasant to touch, I'm gonna so enjoy the final thing.
