Zany Joy: Happiness That Forgets How to Behave
What happens when happiness stops being polite?
Zany joy.
Joy, that doesn’t sit straight.
That doesn’t lower its voice.
That definitely doesn’t ask, “Is this appropriate?”
It shows up uninvited. It wears mismatched socks, laughs too loudly, and makes decisions that your sensible side files under “we’ll regret this later.”
Zany joy is chaotic good. It’s laughing at the wrong moment. Dancing in your room like an audience of zero is somehow a full house. Buying something unnecessary because it made your inner child yell, “I want this, and I want it now.”
Is it logical? No.
Is it responsible? Also no.
Is it absolutely necessary? Unfortunately… yes.
Not all happiness is calm and composed.
Some of it trips over its own feet and still takes a bow.
Zany joy loves the ridiculous. It finds humor in the monotonous, turns boredom into a playground, and at times, convinces you that singing in the shower qualifies as a concert tour.
(Spoiler: it doesn’t. That bottle of your shower gel is not a fan. It’s just trapped.)
There’s a delightful rebellion in it—a refusal to be serious all the time,
a quiet protest against the idea that adulthood must be permanently exhausted and mildly disappointed.
Zany joy says, “What if we just… didn’t?”
Didn’t overthink.
Didn’t tone it down.
Didn’t wait for a “right moment” that sounds like never.
Zany joy has consequences.
You might look silly.
You might say something absurd.
You might become the most discussed person in the group chat.
Tragic.
But you will also feel lighter.
Because between the nonsense and the laughter, you remember something important:
Life is unpredictable. You might as well be unpredictably happy.
Zany joy doesn’t trying to impress anyone.
It’s not curated, filtered, or deeply meaningful.
It’s just… fun. And sometimes, that’s the most serious thing you can allow yourself to have.
Do you resonate with this idea of Zany Joy?
