After many years of contemplation, Organic Synergies is pleased to announce the first of many Artivism Sessions in the new art and culture space in Rēzekne, Līpuoja. These events aim to provide a safe and open environment for reflection on the synergic power of art and activism when they converge.
Artivism is the practice of using creative expression as a tool for social change and positive transformation. We believe that Rēzekne is full of creative and thoughtful individuals who are already doing exactly this, and the only thing missing was a place where they could come together, speak openly, listen respectfully, and create together.
Curated by Mafalda Garcia and Willow Storm Boulter, these sessions will provide an opportunity for honest dialogue, free expression, and human connection. This is not an ideological space; it is a space for humanity, curiosity, and art.
PROGRAM
🕒 15:00 Social Art Exhibition: Gazas Bērnu Gleznu Izstāde
Paintings by evacuated Palestinian children, created at the Meera Children's Center in Cairo, Egypt, a center visited by around 250 children daily, many evacuated after the bombing of Gaza, many of whom have lost family members or experienced life-changing injuries.
Their paintings show not only trauma, lost families, and pride in their Palestinian roots, but also suns, trees, and rainbows. Children, finding safety, still dreaming.
This exhibition opens a dialogue about war, childhood, and the power of art to make us feel what numbers and headlines cannot.
🕓 16:00 Open Talk: Why Does Activism Matter Today?
with special participation of Maiznīca and Par Brīvu Palestīnu
Conflicts are reshaping our world, and Europe is not far from them. How do we feel about it? How do we act? What role does art play in understanding and expressing what is happening around us?
We invited two of Riga's most active social movements to share their perspectives and open a bridge between different points of view.
Maiznīca is a non-commercial community center and intersectional activist collective in Riga, organizing discussions, film nights, creative workshops, protests, and events in support of feminist, queer, and migrant communities, building ever-widening solidarity with people who care.
Par Brīvu Palestīnu is an activist movement in Riga standing against the genocide of the Palestinian people committed by Israel, the occupation of their territories, and Latvia's complicity in these war crimes, organizing protests, educational events, and film screenings to pressure the Latvian government to comply with international law.
This gathering is open to everyone. We ask only one thing: respect for each other, for different opinions, and for the stories and experiences that will be shared in this room.
