Remembering Irwin Allen, who was born 110 years ago today. Flawed though his sci-fi productions were, they gave me a great deal of joy growing up, especially The Time Tunnel and Land of the Giants.
Here he is directing Don Marshall and Gary Conway on the set of the very first episode of Land of the Giants. The fact that the Spindrift crash-landed on the giant world on 12 June was a deliberate in-joke.

Here we have a promotional Land of the Giants badge. Well, here in the UK we'd call it a badge; in the States it's a button or a pin. Whatever you want to call it, it was produced in the 1960s, and as a little boy I would have worn it proudly if only it had been available in the UK.
I have to say, though, the wording puzzles me. Why has "are" been changed to "is"? This might be a question that one of my American friends can answer for me.

A very happy 90th birthday to Gary Conway — actor, writer, artist, and so much more. He’s the very definition of a Renaissance man.
On top of his many talents and accomplishments, for my generation Mr Conway will always have a special place in our hearts as Captain Steve Burton, leader of the diminutive Earth people trapped in the Land of the Giants.
