Kimi Antonelli continua a fare la voce grossa e ottiene la pole position anche nel Gran Premio del Giappone, terzo appuntamento del Mondiale di Formula 1. L’italiano con la sua Mercedes, dopo aver conquistato il Gp di Cina, ha firmato oggi, sabato 28 marzo, anche la pole position a Suzuka con il miglior tempo di 1’28”778 precedendo di 3 decimi di secondo il compagno di scuderia George Russell. È la seconda consecutiva per il pilota italiano, che ha ottenuto la seconda pole in carriera a distanza di 15 giorni dalla prima. Un “back to back” che solo i grandi della Formula 1 in passato sono riusciti a portare a termine, come per esempio Lewis Hamilton nel 2007.
Scatterà dalla terza piazza invece Oscar Piastri su McLaren che ha chiuso con il tempo di 1’29”132. Quarto tempo per la Ferrari di Charles Leclerc che ha chiuso le qualifiche a più di 6 decimi dall’italiano. Più lontano Lewis Hamilton: con la seconda rossa partirà dalla terza fila con il sesto tempo alle spalle anche dell’altra McLaren di Lando Norris, campione del mondo in carica. Delusione per Max Verstappen: l’olandese con la sua Red Bull è stato eliminato nel Q2, e partirà partirà 11esimo.
“Sono un pochino più tranquillo ma avrò comunque le farfalle allo stomaco. Domani speriamo di essere primi in curva 1 e di fare un buon passo“, ha dichiarato Antonelli ai microfoni di Sky Sport dopo la pole conquistata al Gp del Giappone con la Mercedes. “Cosa è cambiato dopo la vittoria in Cina? Sicuramente ho appreso qualcosa sulla partenza. In Cina non avevo fatto una partenza decente fino quel punto”, spiega. “La pole di oggi è stata più bella di quella conquistata in Cina perché mi sono sentito meglio in macchina anche se il primo run non è stato dei migliori. Però alla fine mi sono adattato ed sono riuscito ad avere un buon ritmo – aggiunge – Oggi ho iniziato bene in Q1 ed è importante essere comunque migliorato nelle tre sessioni senza fare errori. Se riesci a fare giri puliti e fare miglioramenti, credo che sia importante. C’è ancora da migliorare ma siamo sulla strada giusta“, ha concluso il giovanissimo pilota Mercedes.
