Wool carder bees are one of the UK's largest #SolitaryBees , and they get their name from their practise of collecting hairs from plant leaves and stems, in order to build the cells within their nests. The plants you can grow to provide the 'wool' include #LambsEars (#Stachys) and #mullein (#Verbascum) species."

These #lambsears are flowering!

I’ve never been at the right time to see flowers on these things tbh so this was a little treat for me.

Post edit… now, I must confess thanks to @JudeNunga - these lambs ears are not… I repeat are NOT flowering.

In my haste and ditsiness this morning I failed to notice these flowers (which are amongst) the lambsears)… and thought a part of this plant.

Now… whose the galah?? (Aka stoops?!!) 🤣🤣🤣

#Anisemint is flowering at the moment.

No I didn’t taste this one (😁😁 as with the #lambsears), given both are from the mint family; Lamiaceae.

Once bitten, twice shy!

Cannot wait to see these teeming with flowers in a week or two!

Hey @j4gypsy - went back to those gardens to have a little taste of the #lambsears (given they’re a part of the ‘mint’ family’) to see if they resembled that ‘fresh minty taste’.

All gone!! 😳

They’re probably past their used by date and they’ve been pulled.

The hunt continues 😁

If anyone can confirm (or deny) that lambs ears taste minty, please let us know??!
