You probably know this spot pretty well if you’ve been on Instagram for some time now. Many photographers have been here and shared their photos from here in social media. I saw this place years ago on Instagram and I wouldn’t believe, back then, that one day I will be one of the lucky ones who visit this place - and yet, I did.
But there’s more to this place than being just another Instagramable spot, there is a story behind it. What you don’t see on this photo is the hotel that was visited by the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand - nephew of The Emperor Franz Josef. This place has more history - go Google it. From the most recent times: the place is being overcrowded so the road leading to it has been closed sometimes in the summer.

Lago di Braies

When it's very early, the light over this famous Italian mountain lake is gorgeous. Then it's still relatively quiet there, too. A couple of hours later, though, the reflections are gone, the light has become harsh and busloads of tourists have flocked the area. While I shot this at 09:04, my first picture here was actually at 07:08. And that's at the end of September. Last year in early August, I took my first shot here at 05:26. So if you want to visit Lago di Braies (or the Pragser Wildsee, in German), do yourself a favour and arrive here early. That's also when it's still easy to find a parking spot.
