On a gray day in a gray time, I happened to pass by this statue in Metz. It depicts Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de La Fayette with a quote of him from 1778 about the fight for freedom and liberty in America.
I wonder what La Fayette would think today about his legacy...
Nowadays, more than ever, we need people like La Fayette who stand up for freedom and fight against despots and oppressors—especially in the United States.
