Today I've been in the garden learning about the lifecycle of #ladybirds with the help of this sage plant.

The black/orange crawly fellas are the pre-pupal ladybirds. The orange blobby thing attached to the leaf is the pupa. And from this, the adult will eventually emerge.

For #waspWednesday - a ladybird with its baby!

(By 'baby', of course I mean a parasitoid wasp, Dinocampus coccinellae - the larva of which erupted out of the ladybird's abdomen, made a cocoon and is now pupating underneath using the paralysed ladybird's bright colours and foul taste as a deterrent to predators. All things bright and beautiful, etc.)

Nice find on this mornings dog walk, a Larch Ladybird, Aphidecta obliterata, and another beetle, Ischnomera sanguinicollis, on the same leaf.

2 Spot Ladybird, Adalia bipunctata, a couple from the garden today, one the typical two spot, red with two black spots, and one form quadrimaculata , which is black with four red spots.
