It's always a pleasure to see politicians answering employers who complain about lack of labour, "Have you tried paying more?" That was @tonyclement in this podcast.
For me, the most surprising part of the podcast was to learn that Canada tracks people coming into the country, but doesn't track who leaves, so that we have little idea who is still here.
The most concerning part was the worry that something like the Bondi Beach tragedy will happen in Canada.
Mass deportation “could depress national wage and salary income by $317.2b or 2.7% of labor income in 2023. This would be a much larger percentage loss than during the 1980, 1991, and 2002 recessions. It also would be more than half the 5% decline in 2009 at the height of the Great Recession.”

“The notion that #vaccinemandates have contributed to the ever-worsening #labourshortages in #health care, as political critics of the government have argued, is nonsense. Long-standing system failings, including a lack of human-resources planning, are the real reason for our labour woes.
The vast majority of #healthcareworkers are ethical, civic-minded and science-believing, and as a result, almost all of them are #vaccinated.”
Oh, and as for those mythical "labour shortages"...
(You know, the ones that mysteriously appear whenever centrists are in government, and failing to keep the wage slaves sufficiently beaten down)
... here's labour economist Heidi Shierholz and capitalist Nick Hanauer agreeing that what they actually are is *wage* shortages;

Romania's demographic decline damages the economy.
With a population of 19 million, Romania is sinking into a worrying demographic decline. Over 5 million Romanians have left their homeland, searching for a better life in Western Europe.
Meanwhile, companies investing in the country struggle to recruit workers.
