Union Coordination Is Essential to Organizing Amazon - PM Press

By Peter Olney and Rand Wilson Jacobin February 12, 2026 Unions have the resources to organize Amazon and are already working to do so. Building Amazon “labor tables” in key metro areas — regular meetings where unions agree to coordinate their efforts — will be crucial to advancing organizing efforts further. The tentacles of the […]

“ beyond any economic rationale, the most compelling argument is the simplest one: working people deserve more leisure, more rest, and more control of their time. “ - Vishal Reddy union negotiator for #nursinghomeworkers and the executive director of #WorkFour, the national campaign to make the four-day, 32-hour workweek the standard for all workers.

Viewpoint: Labor’s Answer to A.I.? Give Us Our Time Back

When it comes to A.I., there’s a stark gap in ambition between business and labor. If A.I. ushers in a technological boom, corporations intend to use it to wage total war on labor. They will use efficiency gains to cut human jobs, surveil workers, and degrade work. Even if A.I. falls short of its lofty (perhaps inflated) valuations, the working class may still suffer severe consequences, since our economy and retirement increasingly depend on A.I. investments. Workers sense that corporations have laid a trap for them. A recent Pew survey indicated most workers feel worried about A.I.

Why Labor Must Act: Workers, Unions, and the Defense of Democracy

When we look at the history of U-turns from democratic backsliding to democratic revival, the success rate is about fifty percent. That’s the finding that emerges from decades of research into how societies resist authoritarian consolidation—and it should unsettle us. Fifty percent is a coin toss. It means that roughly half the time democratic backsliding becomes permanent, and the institutions, rights, and freedoms people took for granted simply don’t come back.

Your job as an organizer was to find out what it was that people wanted to be different in their lives, and then to persuade people that it mattered whether they decided to do something about it. This is not the same thing as persuading people that the thing itself matters: they usually know it does. The task is to persuade people that they matter: they know they usually don’t.

“ My first protest as an adult was part of the wave of anti-Iraq War protests across the US in 2003. I was part of a crowd of over 100,000. It felt good to know there were so many of us, that I wasn’t alone in my anger with what my government was doing. “
