(Many) Voices from Labor Notes | Labor Radio-Podcast Weekly

Hey, it’s Chris Garlock. It’s after midnight Friday night, so really Saturday morning here at the Labor Notes conference. The late-night jam here at the Great Labor Arts Exchange is winding down, but folks are still deep in intense conversations in the hallways of the Hyatt Regency. Maybe the best way to think about today’s show is like music. It's voices from dozens of activists at Labor Notes, captured by some of the crew here from shows in the Labor Radio Podcast Network, who spent the entire day recording interviews, many of them at the Network’s open-air studio in the vendor area, others caught in the hallways, on the run from one session to the next. We’ve taken bits and pieces of those interviews and woven them into the fabric that makes up today’s show. Hope you enjoy it!Our interviews were conducted by members of the Labor Radio Podcast Network, including Lynn Fields from the Resolve podcast, Carmen Rodriguez, from El Cafecito del Dia, Jerry Mead Lucero, from Labor Express Radio, Mark Gevaart from My Labor Radio, Harold Phillips, from Working to Live in Southwest Washington, and Patrick Dixon, co-producer here on the Labor Radio Podcast Weekly, Harold and Patrick co-produced today’s show, doing all the heavy lifting processing the dozens of interviews the rest of the crew did, with a special shoutout to Lynn Fields (in action here with Patrick producing), who really set the blistering pace for us all. Chattanooga VW Worker: “This Will Change What People Think Is Possible”

Fresh off of the United Auto Workers’ blowout unionization victory at the Chattanooga, Tennessee, Volkswagen plant, we spoke to a VW worker there about why the drive won and where the UAW goes from here.

Heading home early from Labor Notes. Thanks to the organizers and speakers for a remarkable weekend, and thanks to everyone I met for the conversations. (And if you picked up a copy of YOU DESERVE A TECH UNION, thank you for that too.)

Head’s full, heart’s on fire. Can’t wait for the next LN 💖

sad to see #LaborNotes2024 ask everyone to wear masks for the duration of the event and see basically no one doing it in pictures. #ableism
So much rich content and intense energy at this Labor Notes conference, so many human connections to make and re-make, so many anecdotes and great lines. So many observations and reflections, it will take me some time to sort and settle. And there's still today! First up, a panel on the Mexican labor movement... before that, bfast with a dear friend.
