Online Workshop: Running for Union Office

One of the most important tools in the rank-and-file toolbox for transforming the labor movement is running for local union office. Internal elections are one of the ways that members can present a new way forward for the union, by putting the direction of the union in the hands of the membership—even if it means challenging existing leaders to do so. But running for union office—and winning, or losing and still building lasting networks in our locals—is not just about getting your name on a ballot.

Starting to crank up the outreach for our April 26th #LaborNotes event in #Colorado Springs. Starting with my contacts and doing some "peer-esteem snowballing." We're doing a one-day "Secrets of a Successful Organizer" workshop. Cheesy title, but the content is solid and, above all, it provides a principled space and framework for participants to begin building grassroots, person-to-person, democratic networks.

Labor Notes has a contest for crowd-singing songs about a general strike. So I wrote this over laundry today and I’ll make a few more recordings and submit it. #labornotes #generalstrike #union #labor #resistproject2025

Hold Fast! (Hold the Line)

Labor Notes has a contest for a general strike anthem, so this is my first demo of the song I wrote for it. The song is written to be easy for people to pick up and sing- so the crowd can easily sing

Federal Workers Organize Against Billionaire Power Grab

The second Trump administration has the federal workforce in its crosshairs. Spearheading the effort is Elon Musk (the richest man in the world) and his so-called Department of Government Efficiency (not actually a government department). Trump and Musk have taken a shotgun-blast approach: instituting a hiring freeze, shutting down whole agencies, telling workers to stop coming in, offering buyouts to 2 million workers, ordering remote workers back to the office in violation of union contracts, and mass-firing workers still in their probationary periods.

Stewards Corner: Members in Motion Changed the Game in Daimler Contract Campaign

Inspired by the success of the Big 3 strike, United Auto Workers members at Daimler Truck North America ran a very different kind of contract campaign this year than we ever had before. The 7,300 members at DTNA’s four North Carolina plants and parts distribution centers in Atlanta and Memphis were very active, informed, and involved in the bargaining process. This is not how the union had done things in the past. Here’s what we did differently, and some ideas on how to keep members in the loop and in motion for an effective contract campaign.

Amazon Workers Launch Largest Strike Yet: 'It Doesn't Feel Like a Job That Should Be Legal'

Amazon warehouse workers and delivery drivers at seven facilities in the metro areas of San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta, Southern California, and New York City are out on strike today, in what the union says is the largest strike against Amazon in U.S. history. Unionized workers at Staten Island’s JFK8 fulfillment center have also authorized a strike and could soon follow. Workers in all these locations—five delivery stations and two fulfillment centers—have already shown majority support and demanded union recognition.
