Yesterday's
#SundayOut took us to Rhineland-Palatinate and the beautiful Abbey Maria Laach. It is a monastery belonging to the Beuron Congregation of the Benedictine Order.
The high medieval monastery complex is located on the southwest side of Lake
#Laach. The six-towered monastery church is a vaulted pillar basilica with a magnificent western entrance, the so-called Paradise (unique of its kind north of the Alps) and the cloister from the beginning of the 13th century, which was restored in 1859. It is considered one of the most beautiful monuments of
#Romanesque #architecture from the Salier period in
#Germany. In 1926
#Pope Pius XI awarded the church the honorary title of "Basilica minor".
It is not allowed to take pictures using flashlight inside the abbey, but thankfully I did manage to take some (good) shots without. This place is breathtakingly beautiful, don't you think?
