The #LOCKSS Program at Stanford University is conducting a global survey to assess digital preservation practices, capacity, and needs across memory institutions.

Building on the 2019 Stepping Stones project, this work will help identify regions and communities with the greatest need for preservation services and opportunities to develop community-owned infrastructure.

Anyone working with born-digital or digitized collections is encouraged to participate: https://stanforduniversity.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1zROtUXaqoq7sWO

Digital Preservation Practices Survey - 2026

The LOCKSS Program at Stanford University is conducting research to assess current digital preservation practices, capacity, and needs. This research expands on a survey conducted in 2019 as part of the IMLS-funded Stepping Stones project, which provided important data about preservation needs in the state of Michigan, and led directly to the creation of the Michigan Digital Preservation Network. All those who work with born-digital and digitized collection materials are welcome to participate.

I would be interested in learning about a #codeberg equivalent in Latin America, South America, Asia or Africa, too. I think important open source infrastructure should be mirrored im different geopolitical zones. As librarians say: lots of copies keep stuff safe (#LOCKSS).

The opening plenary at the CNI Spring Meeting will feature an update from the ARL Executive Director, Andrew Pace, on the CNI leadership transition, followed by the presentation of the Paul Evan Peters Award & Memorial Lecture.

Everything is up in the air, indeed!

Wikimedia does have data centers in multiple locations outside the US: https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Data_centers

But even then, I guess it won't hurt if people get a current XML dump of their favorite Wikipedia language version and safeguard it somewhere, whether privately or publicly. #LOCKSS

Reassurances from Wikimedia about their contingency plans would still be very good to hear.
