Parallel by Matthias Lehmann

I couldn't get over Karl being a gay Nazi soldier & the book not addressing it! Ultimately, his journey coming to terms with himself as Germany changes and trying to reconcile with his adult daughter fell short. The art style was muddled.

The Sleepless by Victor Manibo

2.75 stars

A compelling mystery with anti-capitalist themes and an unreliable queer narrator. Unfortunately the style wasn't for me, particularly the dialogue. I feel the book should have been about 30% shorter: there's a lot of fat to trim and the strong moments end up diluted by hamfisted filler internal monologues.

Back to the positive: the plot was satisfyingly unsatisfying. A lot of books have a neatness to them that breaks my suspension of disbelief, even when executed well. Whereas I could absolutely see the events of this book happening in our world. Quite a few parts felt painfully real.

Napkins and Other Distractions (Teachers in Love #3) by M.A. Wardell

Sweet but this series just misses for me. I appreciate Wardell being a gay man writing gay male romance and characters who aren't perfect.

This relationship seems more HFN than HEA, and I cannot say, given either of their backstories, that I wanted them to stay with their first serious relationship with another man.
