Our next #HitchinHackspace weekly open evening is on Monday 8th June.

We will be open from 19:30 until 22:00 to give folks who may be interested in what we do, and what facilities we can provide, a chance to come and have a look round and meet some of our members.
All are welcome. If you have ever wondered what we did to convert a derelict toilet into a hackspace, or what a "hackspace" is for that matter, come and have a look around.
If you like to create, make or craft things why not pay us a visit?
We have tools and equipment that cover a wide range of hobbies, crafts and technologies: woodwork, metalwork, electronics, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, sewing, 3D printing.....

Dear Fedi,

I'd like to tap the hive mind for advise regarding enabling a 12 year old of my relatives to learn programming (or at least understand the process a bit better).

1. Which programming language? I am undecided between #Python and #Racket --- but open for other suggestion. I think I'd like to avoid a compiled or a statically typed language for the beginning, because this just increases the barrier of entry.

A good eco system (preferrably with graphics) and available literature for self-study are also a must.

2. Which book can I recommend for self-study? The guy is tri-lingual and can read and speak Spanish, German and English --- so the language of the book doesn't matter. I'll just get whichever is available.
