Poem

I wasn’t a housewife- not in the traditional sense sweeping away dust bunnies humming a little tune. I wasn’t a housewife- barefoot and pregnant slaving away over a hot stove with dinner ready when hubby returned home from work. I wasn’t a housewife- trudging down the hallway lugging heavy laundry loads ready to hang out in the sunshine. I wasn’t a housewife- holding a child on each hip as I vacuumed and mopped or scrubbed dirty pots and pans. I wasn’t a housewife- not in the traditional sense instead chores went unfinished as I smeared ink across the page.

I decided it was time to replace my 16-year-old clothes washer and 23-year-old gas dryer. Both still work, but the front-loader washer groans from what are probably worn out bearings and it has a lot of mold growth. It has never needed a repair! The dryer is just old. I replaced a broken drive belt on it about a year ago, but think 23 years is long enough. I chose a brand that is typically reliable and got the least AI that I could find in high-efficiency models. This cut the price by a third and it minimized the complexity enough that I decided purchasing an extended warranty was unnecessary. The ridiculous thing about AI in washers and dryers is that one still must put the dirty laundry into the washer, move it into the dryer, and then fold it. My wife agreed and added that she will take AI in our laundry appliances when they do the job from start to finish like Rosie, the XB-500 robot in the Jetsons cartoon series.

Diesen Solarwäschetrockner entdeckte ich in Pescia. Das dort weit verbreitete Modell führt mehrere Wäscheleinen als endlose Schleifen über zwei mehrere Meter entfernte Rollen. Von einem einzigen Fenster aus kann man dadurch die gesamte Hausbreite zum Trocknen nutzen.
