Francois DionAnd finally the Roland D50. Feeding it into the echolution pedal, stereo In/Out to the mixer. I put aside the PG1000 as I've programmed the sounds already and I have an hcard for extra patch storage.
17 (!) Screws later and my Roland D-550 has a new battery. Fortunately it is not soldered, a CR2032 held in place by a metal tab. it is back up, reset, and now just have to load the presets through sysex. I have the important patches on an external card anyways as I share it between the D50 and the D550.

psf / SoundBlastedToday, used the 25-hour day to write my first song in a while, "Discontinuity", named for the clock change. I was trying to channel Suzanne Ciani on this one, and my original melody line was even more on-the-nose, but I lost sight of it while tweaking the D550's tone. Hope you all like it anyway!

The workstation the preceded the Ensoniq VFX-SD is โฆ the Roland D20.
Sequencer, multitimbral, drums, effects and storage either onboard, on ram cards or floppy. Just like the ensoniq. But a whole year earlier.
Even had an optional programmer to make things easier, the PG10.

Here, as reference is a Roland TN-SC1, number 13, Dance 3. Also came in a big box (to justify the price), but card is small. Fits inside a PCMCIA case but a different technology altogether. The next series would be based on General Midi/GS instead of MT32 as a midi standard, and would include 8 styles.

Roland TN-SC1 series of cards only had 4 selectable styles. Quasimidi got around this by using switches. 2 switches, 4 possibilities to select 4 music styles.
