After many years I was on a Lanparty today. And it was like back in 1999: Drag your stuff to the location, network debugging, Half-Life, Counter Strike, Unreal Tournament, Pizza, Energy Drinks, ...
But one thing was different: Instead of hauling a 30kg tower PC, I brought my Steam Deck, completely with Linux on it. And it worked great. First Windows-less Lanparty, at least for me.

Assembly Winter 2026 takana! 🔥

On aina yhtä kivaa vetäytyä muutamaksi päiväksi ihanaan nörttikuplaan mukavien ihmisten kanssa 💻

Tämän tapahtuman kohokohtia olivat lanituksen lisäksi musashow’t, sosialisointi, e-shakin SM-kisat ja demoskabat, tietty etenkin oman demon väsäys ja sen kisamenestys (hopeaa tuli). Kiitos jälleen paljon erityisesti Assyukot ja järkkärit hienosta tapahtumasta 🙏

Saw something on the Gram that reminded me of good old LAN parties: Packing a heavy CRT monitor and a Mini Tower in your car, diving to a friend's place, unload, have a weekend, sleep little, eat badly, still stay skinny, have fun and enjoy the time with friends. Man ... that won't ever come back, no matter how much I want it. I can't even get two people together with old PC hardware (not vintage 8 or 16 bit stuff) and LAN-party on. Let alone a full room of dudes to play bloody Blobby Volley in between CS Aztec or Age of Empires 😅. Or even Hearts, for crying out loud: A card game via LAN? Sure, why the heck not 🤣. We were crazy. But it was awesome. And then drive back in my old VW Polo, packed with all the gear, barely seeing something through the frozen windows during winter time. Wild. Maybe I'll fire up CS on Steam to get a little bit of that ... but I know it won't be the same. Hope you have some great junk food, some lemonade and an great weekend everyone! Cheers! 🫶
