A ★★★★ review of The Sword of Swords (1968)
I found it really easy to relate to Jimmy Wang Yu's character in his refusal to get pulled into violent confrontations. But you just know the antagonists aren't going to stop escalating their attempts. Perfect build of emotional stakes and values that did not unfold in ways I expected. The camerawork and action choreography (co-directed by Lau Kar-leung) are outstanding. Another must-see Shaw Brothers classic.
My copy of the Brave Archer Collection arrived.
Since I've watched the first four of these over the last month or so, I'm jumping straight to the fifth for tonight's movie.
