Designed as a companion to my limited edition Book of Abjad, this monograph is an open edition that reproduces all of the artwork, explains the different systems for organising the Abjad and the symbolism derived from them, and tells the story of each individual letter along with showing a range of designs for each. The printed book is available here.CONTENTS:IntroductionThe Abjad OrderThe Formal OrderThe Phonetic OrderThe Cosmology of AbjadTHE LETTERS (1 spread per letter, plus Lamalif)Appendix: Ihmāl and the story of KāfOrigin of the sample scriptsReferencesEndnotesPurchasing this PDF means you'll automatically receive any future revisions of it. This feels like hardly the time, and I'm not in a great space, but the #Kufic Specimen Posters are now in the shop: majnouna.com/shop/prints
They're a set of 6 (though I can only attach 4 images) depicting little-known styles from astrolabes. A3 size (30x42cm) on thick paper.
Button or Bead?
Conical stone button or bead with a flaring lip, excavated at Nishapur in northeast Iran. Dated to the 10thC or 11thC and probably made of jet, the object measures 1.2cm X 1.2cm. Incised Kufic writing encircles the base of the object which remains undeciphered. Source : Metropolitan Museum of Art, Accession Number : 38.40.90

Edits day! Let’s get this book on the road.
Incidentally, this is the last day for pre-orders. I intend to send files to the printer tonight, which means the price goes up from tomorrow!
I have been consumed with binding artist books and writing the monograph that goes with them, but I expect to finish writing tomorrow! Now that I'm so close to printing, I'm opening pre-orders for the monograph: It's a chance to catch it at the early bird price but the window closes when the book goes to press. It will ship in October after my campaign fulfillment.
