My favorite conspiracy theory is that the moon landing was fake and filmed by Stanley Kubrick, and that with the government's budget Kubrick was able to fully indulge his obsession with authenticity, including filming on location and traveling there by rocket, so as to immerse the cast in the appropriate ambiance, to ensure maximum realism would be achieved, to fool the audience into believing it all really happened.
