It’s time to share our video for the France Aikido #1month1technique challenge! 🎥🥋
April’s technique was kote gaeshi, a throw based on a wrist twist, often seen in demonstrations and on social media.
In the Iwama style, if you look closely, the ukemi are a bit different (a bit more… flat?) 🤔
But the principles remain the same — falling safely while protecting the wrist !
Many thanks once again to our instructors and sempai for taking part in this project: Benoit, Antoine, Paul, Julien Sensei, Laetitia, Magali and Bruno 👏

The result of that was a 15-20min post-class informal congregation of a few other newbies, with questions, and a quick no #ukemi demo of forms of #KoteGaeshi that are NOT usually taught, outside of #DaitoRyu and other #Jujutsu forms.

What attracted me to #Aikido was the inclusiveness, the flexibility and optional benevolence of the forms.

Many assume that, because of that optional benevolence, Aikido "doesn't work" because you don't leave a trail of bloody bodies behind you. The Aikido forms are direct from DaitoRyu. We train in a manner to not apply lethality or even likelihood of physical harm (apply #ukemi qualifiers here).

But never make categorical assertions, out of near absolute ignorance, about the effectiveness of a encompassing series of techniques you barely started to discover.Looks foolish.

Namely when someone proceeds to demonstrate a dozen or so forms of that technique you didn't know existed, and which show exactly what you said couldn't happen.

The other day, at the dojo, someone told me, *categorically* that there is NO WAY to execute a #KoteGaeshi without significant #TaiSabaki (full body displacement).

The individual in question is, now, a NiKyu (2nd degree before yudansha/black belt) with about ~5yrs of Aikido (and an alleged "black belt" in TKD, which is worth what it is) training.

The guy is the type to resist techniques and insert his previous exclusive training into the form. His tea cup is so full.

I smirked, stated he might not be right about that, and ignored his further mumbling.
