Here's a #KoruTawa for March #MonochromeMonday that I generated last week. Note that the grayscale outputs actually have a slight warm bias for the tones that are not pure black. The white is FFFCF1, and the black is actually #090909, so it reduces contrast just a bit to make things a bit easier on the eyes. I went with more of a sepia-tone feel without it being too noticeable, since the pure grayscale palette just felt a bit too cold to me.

Since I've been doing more #Monochrome photography lately, I think I will post some monochrome #KoruTawa pieces on each #MonochromeMonday for a while. This one from two years ago is titled "Particulate City"

I did some experimenting with #ImageManipulation in #Krita this evening. I took a #KoruTawa image I generated last weekend, trimmed strips out to make it narrower, resized, then applied an explode filter in Irfanview and pasted four copies of that back into Krita with soft light, overlay, lighten, and darken blend modes, and decreased the opacity of all layers. It created a surprisingly cool diffuse texture and gives the shapes some volume and glow.

it is a large grid #KoruTawa with square dots, no side dots, and two large slightly overlapping circular groupings that include positive or negative inside and exclude outside. Many mid-dot columns or walks filled in first, with one positive large dots column in ascending size, then scatter dot groups filled the rest. The rendered PNGs are 230 MP (yet under 2 MB), and the model is 11 MB uncompressed.

For my second #ArtForSale Friday post, let's go to the other extreme, where the smallest #KoruTawa grid sizes tend to be on the side of #minimalism. Simple geometric compositions instead of sprawling, dynamic, textural pieces. This one has the namesake elements of the Koru spiral abstraction that Gordon Walters originated and the Tawa seed ellipses and banded column elements that I created. I love how these few simple elements can combine in so many ways.

For the first of my #ArtForSale posts, I have #KoruTawa v28 2025-11-04 op.767. This one has several similar elements to the previous one, but a few prominent differences (see alt text for more). Please DM to buy my art so I can buy music on Bandcamp, as well as other necessities. This piece includes two 2:3 aspect ratio, 77.6 megapixel PNG images and a 3D model, 19 MB in total. They can work well displayed in various orientations, framed or as canvas prints.

Today I'll analyze a #KoruTawa piece I gave to my brother a couple of years ago in the alt text of the image, because five hundred characters goes by extremely quickly and I dislike having to use replies to fit what should really be a single post. Ahem. I will do a post of this project in this format every Friday as part of my year of daily art sharing since I have so many. The rest will be ones that are available for purchase.

A tall 2:1 rectangle frame.
Aligned square grid side dots bound the central area. The inner dots match the blue background, and have a flow field altering scale and rotation, giving it the feel of sand and water. Banded columns pass through and weave along the central island, which is covered in vegetation. In the B side image, the water has raised, covering the sand and accenting various details.

If you want to make a complex abstract geometric artwork, I recommend starting by trying to reproduce a work by an artist who you admire. The inspiration for my #KoruTawa project was the Koru paintings of Gordon Walters.
You first need to break it down into a set of rules. Start with simple descriptions and diagrams, then convert that to pseudo-code. Then write the actual code, one small part at a time. Once you have it reproduced, then try to add elements to it to create variants.

I have a few projects which I've been meaning to share my progress on. I'll get to that soon. But for now, I want to share my art more regularly, so here is one I generated today.
