RiseUp4Rojava is terug! Op 29 januari komen we samen in Theater de Generator in Leiden om de huidige situatie in Rojava te bespreken en wat we kunnen doen om onze solidariteit met de revolutie te tonen. Onder begeleiding van Koerdische volksmuziek organiseren we een paneldiscussie over de aanvallen op Syrische minderheden en de revolutionie in de autonome administratie.
EEN EXISTENTIËLE DREIGING
De Autonome Administratie wordt momenteel geconfronteerd met de zwaarste aanvallen in haar hele geschiedenis. De Syrische Overgangsregering, in werkelijkheid Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), in samenwerking met het door Turkije gesteunde "Syrische Nationale Leger" (SNA), doet er alles aan om de revolutie in Noordoost-Syrië te onderdrukken. Na de bezetting van de autonome wijken van Aleppo is heel Noordoost-Syrië een doelwit geworden. Beelden van wreedheden tegen minderheden, en met name vrouwen, zijn overal te zien.
Als gebaar van goede wil hadden de Syrische Democratische Strijdkrachten (SDF) de Aleppo regio al verlaten om het vredesproces te hervatten. De Syrische regering eiste echter de volledige overgave van de SDF. Het gecombineerde offensief werd ondersteund door stammenstrijders en overgebleven IS-strijders en bezette de steden Al-Tabgah, Raqga, Ayn Issa en de regio Deir-ez Zor. Door de Syrische regering, Qatar en Saoedi-Arabië gesteunde overheids-media verzonnen verhalen over wreedheden begaan door de SDF en begonnen hen "terroristische bendes" te noemen om anti-Koerdische haat aan te wakkeren.
DE WERELD IS MEDEPLICHTIG
Westerse regeringen en media hebben veel moeite geïnvesteerd in het oppoetsen van het imago van de nieuwe Syrische regering. Al-Sharaa/Jolani werd van de lijsten met meest gezochte personen verwijderd, de nieuwe staat kreeg legitimiteit van westerse landen en de EU is nu van plan om 620 miljoen euro aan de Syrische regering te sturen. De VS of de EU zijn hoogstens bereid een einde aan het geweld te eisen, maar ondernemen geen stappen om massamoorden zoals die op de Alawieten, Druzen en nu ook de Koerden te voorkomen.
De regering van Jolani dreigt een effectief bolwerk voor westerse belangen te worden. Door hun afhankelijkheid van Turkse steun is het feitelijk een marionettenstaat. Bovendien ondertekenden Syrië en Israël op 6 januari het "Akkoord van Parijs" waarin zij onder bemiddeling van de VS afspraken maakten over het delen van inlichtingen en economische "kansen". Zonder enige vorm van democratie en met een fragiele economie is het land een aantrekkelijk doelwit geworden voor buitenlandse investeerders, en functioneert Syrië als een satellietstaat van het zionisme en de NAVO. Wat is er nog over van de Syrische revolutie?
VERDEDIG DE REVOLUTIE!
De Autonome Administratie en de SDF vertegenwoordigen niet alleen "de Koerden", zoals de media graag beweren in hun simplistische verhalen; ze bestaan uit alle componenten van de Noord-Syrische samenleving. Dit alles wordt ondermijnd om de salafistische, chauvinistische staat te versterken. De verworvenheden van minderheden en vrouwen staan op het spel. Daarnaast vormt de vrijlating van IS-gevangenen door het Jolani-regime een bedreiging voor de hele regio.
Een einde aan de revolutie in Noordoost-Syrië zou het einde betekenen van een van de meest inspirerende revolutionaire strijden van de 21e eeuw. Overal ter wereld, van Myanmar tot Abya Yala, trokken mensen lessen uit de grassroots revolutie die in Rojava begon en zich over de rest van Syrië verspreidde. Ondanks dat ze in de steek zijn gelaten door het zogenaamde beschaafde Westen, blijven ze vechten in een existentiële strijd tegen onderdrukking. De strijd voor autonomie is nog niet voorbij, maar er is een dringende behoefte aan internationale solidariteit!

On the 29th of January, we will be meeting in Theater de Generator in Leiden to discuss the current situation in Rojava, and what we can do to show our solidarity with the revolution. Accompanied by some Kurdish folk music, we will host a panel on the attacks on Syrian minorities and the revolutionary gains of the autonomous administration.

The Autonomous Administration is currently experiencing the greatest attacks in its entire history. The Syrian Transitional Government, only nominally different from Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), and aided by the Turkish-backed "Syrian National Army" (SNA) are doing all they can to crush the revolution in North-East Syria. After occupying the autonomous neighbourhoods of Aleppo, all of North-East Syria became a target. Footage of atrocities against minorities, and women especially, is coming to light.
As a gesture of good will, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) had already vacated the Aleppo governorate to restart the peace process. Instead, the Syrian government demanded the complete surrender of the SDF. The combined offensive was aided by tribal forces and remnants of IS, and occupied the cities of Al-Tabgah, Raqga, Ayn Issa, and the Deir-ez Zor region. Syrian government, Qatari and Saudi backed government media fabricated stories of SDF atrocities and started referring to them as "terrorist gangs" to whip up anti-Kurdish hatred.
Western governments and media outlets have invested a great deal into sanitising the appearance of the new Syrian government. Al-Sharaa/Jolani was removed from most-wanted lists, the new state was granted legitimacy by Western countries and the EU is now planning to send €620 million to the Syrian government. At most, the US or EU is willing to call for an end to violence, but not take any steps to prevent massacres like those of the Alawites, Druze, and now the Kurds.
Jolani's government is set to become an effective outpost for Western interests. Already relying on Turkish backing, they are effectively a puppet state. Furthermore, Syria and Israel signed the "Paris Agreement" on January 6th, agreeing to intelligence sharing and economic "opportunities", mediated by the USA. With no democracy to speak of and a fragile economy, the country has become the perfect target for foreign investors to sink their teeth into, and functions as a satrapy of Zionism and NATO. What's left of the Syrian revolution?
The Autonomous Administration and the SDF don't just represent "the Kurds", as the media likes to claim in their simplistic narratives; They consist of all components of North-Syrian society. All of this is being undermined to play people against each other and strengthen the Salafist, chauvinist state. This means that the gains made by minorities and women are at risk. In addition, the release of IS prisoners by the Jolani regime poses a threat to the entire region.
An end to the revolution in North-East Syria would mean the end of one of the 21st-century's most inspiring revolutionary struggles. All across the world, from Myanmar to Abya Yala, people drew lessons from the grassroots revolution that began in Rojava but spread to the rest of Syria. Despite being abandoned by the so-called civilized West, they continue to fight in an existential battle against oppression. The fight for autonomy isn't over yet, but there is a pressing need for international solidarity!
