Our call for CAKE - Computational Abilities Knowledge Exchange Fellowship applications is closing tomorrow, May 19!
Another chapter about our trip. This one is all about #maggotfarming We were inspired to see how #farmers raise maggots that are used as #nutritious feed for their #chickens and pigs.
The process starts with black soldier flies that are kept in specially designed meshed cages!
The flies lay eggs, which are carefully collected and moved to safe areas for hatching. The larvae feed on crop residues, compost, and other organic materials as they grow through different stages. Under warm conditions, the whole process takes about two to three weeks!
This was a great inspiration for us as #EYN. Seeing this simple and practical system gave us new ideas, and we hope to one day establish a similar project in our community and apply what we learned during the trip.
