#KnowYourAuthors 9 Do you often take breaks from your writing and is it good for you?

I often take breaks from writing when life turns to custard. When shits fucked I can't write. It isn't often good for me though... Because when I try and write again the muscle memory and ease of writing more than maybe 2k words is just gone

#KnowYourAuthors #Writing 8: Write an entire piece then edit or edit while you write?

I write serials and I edit while I write. Editing is a constant job for me.

#KnowYourAuthors #writing 7: Settings, past/modern/future?

Modern pre-COVID Japan. My next project that I am mulling over will probably contain hallucinatory flashbacks to late 10th-century Japan.

#KnowYourAuthors #writing 9 — Do you take breaks from your writing? Is it good for you?

I usually take one long break from writing in the summer when I do lots of plotting and writing out little pieces of snappy dialog.

Is it good for me? I think so, but I hate how long it takes me to get back into gear when I get back.

#KnowYourAuthors 9 — Do you take breaks from your writing? Is it good for you?

I have found myself ensnared in an unexpected and prolonged hiatus from my writing. The ceaseless demands of both domestic and professional spheres impose themselves upon me, often extending these intervals beyond my control. While I remain uncertain of their benefit to my well-being, the toll they exact on the progress of my narrative is unmistakably dire.

#KnowYourAuthors 9 — Do you take breaks from your writing? Is it good for you?

I do. I often take breaks when either life becomes a bit too insane, too intense for writing, or my brain desperately needs it. Writing is always there to return to, and there's no need to pressure yourself into penning something that will only be half as good as something you could write perfectly when you're actually, genuinely in the mood to do it. Life happens. It's alright to take some time to yourself as well.

It’s been a while…
#KnowYourAuthors 9. Do you take breaks from your writing? Is it good for you?

Yes. i haven’t touched #hostiletakeover in 4 months. It is no good for me because i lose all muse and now im struggling to get back into it.

#KnowYourAuthors 7: Settings, past/modern/future?

Completely depends on the project. I work in all three, and in fantasy settings. A lot of my plays are about women forgotten by history, so in that medium, I do a lot set in the past. And love the research!

#KnowYourAuthors 8: Write an entire piece then edit or edit while you write?

I prefer to work in full drafts, or else certain sections are overworked and others underworked.

Serials, however, are usually written only a few weeks ahead, which means I'm editing what's about to go live while writing the new material, which affects the edits and. . .you get the idea. ;)
