I now (finally) got back a response from Kiwibank on my formal complaint to them, for sending extensive information on mortgages and mortgage applications to clients (us) by plain text email (with PDF attachments).

In a way I *knew* it would come out this way. A lot of weasle words making statements that they're compliant with the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act 2003 (LOL, > 20 years old), having extensive 'controls in place' and using 'transit protection'. As if they could control what happens on a service provider's side with (A) the content of the emails, and (B) them actually *also* transmitting them on with transit encryption.

Even if it is compliant, it just should not be *acceptable* by the point of view on how to conduct business.

How naive do they think people are who are *explicitly* asking about these issues?

This is some serious #SecurityTheatre they're pulling off.

Now I need to come off of my rage, or my freediving training will not be effective tonight ...

The AImageddon continues. Today I logged into my KiwiBank internet banking for the first time in a while, and I got through the login flow fine, but then the page wouldn't load. I checked NoScript, and it was trying to load scripts from 3 third-party domains, all of which promote "#AI" on their homepages;

* https://www.dynatrace.com/

* https://www.qualtrics.com/

You can't get away from the digital asbestos, even in a banking app!

#SCAM WARNING - Kiwibank

I got this notification, allegedly, from #Kiwibank although this particular notification was generously sent to me by [email protected] on Kiwibank's behalf - I guess?

Anyhow just letting any #Aotearoa #NZ peeps know to avoid verifying their account should they receive a similar message.

@janef0421

The smarter #NZPol investment would be investing more $ into #Kiwibank which NZ government already owns and operates and the even smarter move to strengthen Kiwibank would be to move NZ government banking from the Australian owned Westpac bank to Kiwibank.

In case anyone is wondering why the Tories don’t want a powerful state owned bank is they’re unable to personally profit off it which is the same reason National sold off 49% of NZ’s gentaillers (power companies) as they are personally profiting off the exploitative profiteering.

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/business/595567/would-buying-bnz-actually-help-new-zealanders

'University of Auckland emeritus professor Tim #Hazledine said improving #banking #competition was a worthwhile goal but reducing the number of major brands was unlikely to achieve it.

' "Rather than buying back the Bank of New Zealand and merging it with #Kiwibank, the government should use its ownership of Kiwibank to position it as a 'fighting brand' and reduce #interest rate margins," he said.

' "That could put pressure on the big four #Australian-owned banks to follow suit."' '

Would buying BNZ actually help New Zealanders?

New Zealand First might want the government to buy back BNZ and meld it with Kiwibank - but there's limited evidence that it would work.

Alliance Party Firmly Opposes “Backdoor Privatisation” Of Kiwibank | Scoop News

Finance Minister Nicola Willis and State Owned Enterprises Minister Simeon Brown have been considering future capital-raising options, including a possible public listing or private-sector capital injection.

WTF is this?

#Kiwibank has sent us a PDF for a home lone variation letter by plain email.

How can this be good? In previous years (approx 10 years ago or so), they've sent bank statements with full transaction history by plain email, too. Without asking!

And, when sending out a reminder on the statement, they're even including this one:

> If you have any questions, please get in touch by sending us a secure mail message through internet banking or our mobile app, or call us on ...

So they are measuring with two kinds of measure here.

#KiwiBank internet banking now comes with DataFarming scripts from 4 different third parties;

* dynatrace.io
* googletagmanager.com
* launchdarkly.com
* qualitrics.com

That's on top of the third-party scripts for the internal notifications, provided by atomic.io.

That's on top of the fact that source code for KB apps is not available to customers under a free license, allowing them to rely on security-by-obscurity instead of security-by-design backed up by peer review.

Thanks to KiwiBank selling off their KiwiSaver scheme to Fisher Funds, I'm now inadvertently investing in a range of disgusting corporate activities, including animal torture, fossil fuel mining, and fucking Meta and Uber;

Does anyone know of a KiwiSaver fund that doesn't invest in animal torture, fossil fuels or technofascism?

Sure, this is why they want to collect data on what people are doing with our money. Also I really do own the Auckland Harbour Bridge and totally have the right to sell it to you for a price that's too good to pass up ...
