Catturato l’ultimo dei grandi narcos rifugiati a Dubai. Preso Daniel Kinahan, 40 anni, irlandese, il ricercato numero 1 dell’Interpol e dell’Europol, una caccia che era in corso da tempo e che si è conclusa solo l’altro ieri, secondo le prime notizie certificate. A stringergli le manette ai polsi la polizia degli Emirati Arabi Uniti, come conferma la Gardai (la polizia irlandese). “L’uomo, di circa 40 anni, è stato arrestato in virtù di un mandato di cattura emesso dai tribunali irlandesi in relazione a presunti gravi reati di criminalità organizzata”, ha dichiarato la Gardaí in un comunicato stampa.
L’arresto è avvenuto in conformità con l’accordo bilaterale di estradizione tra l’Irlanda e gli Emirati Arabi Uniti. Kinahan era famoso anche in Italia per essere uno dei componenti di un grande cartello del narcotraffico internazionale insieme al ‘nostro’ Raffaele Imperiale, il camorrista anch’egli catturato (nel 2021, estradato l’anno successivo) dalla polizia emiratina su mandato della Dda di Napoli – procuratore Gianni Melillo, pm Maurizio De Marco e Vincenza Marra – attraverso modalità simili a quelle usate per il narcos irlandese.
Kinahan e Imperiale lavorarono alla costruzione di un sodalizio capace di movimentare tonnellate di stupefacenti in tutto il mondo, senza muoversi dagli alberghi ad otto stelle di Dubai. Al suo matrimonio del 2017, festeggiato al Burì al Arab, il più lussuoso albergo degli Emirati, il narcos irlandese invitò i superboss della droga internazionale: il cileno Ricardo Riquelme Vega, il marocchino Ridouan Taghi e Imperiale. Per una sera, il ‘cartello’ si era concentrato lì.

The last of the major drug kingpins was captured in Dubai. Daniel Kinahan, 40, an Irishman, the number one international Interpol and Europol wanted man, was taken into custody after a long-running hunt that concluded only the other day, according to initial confirmed reports. The police of the United Arab Emirates placed the handcuffs on him, as confirmed by the Gardaí (Irish police). “The man, approximately 40 years old, was arrested pursuant to a warrant issued by Irish courts in connection with alleged serious organized crime offenses,” the Gardaí said in a press release.

The arrest took place in accordance with the bilateral extradition agreement between Ireland and the United Arab Emirates. Kinahan was also well-known in Italy for being one of the members of a major international drug trafficking cartel alongside ‘our’ Raffaele Imperiale, the Camorra boss also captured (in 2021, extradited the following year) by Emirati police on the warrant of the DDA of Naples – prosecutors Gianni Melillo, Maurizio De Marco and Vincenza Marra – using methods similar to those used for the Irish drug lord.

Kinahan and Imperiale worked to build a syndicate capable of moving tons of drugs worldwide, without moving from the eight-star hotels of Dubai. At his wedding in 2017, celebrated at the Burì al Arab, the most luxurious hotel in the Emirates, the Irish drug lord invited top international drug bosses: the Chilean Ricardo Riquelme Vega, the Moroccan Ridouan Taghi, and Imperiale. For one night, the ‘cartel’ was focused there.

A senior lieutenant of Ireland’s most wanted drug cartel boss was being extradited from the United Arab Emirates on Thursday in a major blow to the Kinahan organised crime group, which is under US sanctions.
