The Kilmichael Ambush (Luíochán Chill Mhichíl) took place on this day in 1920. The ambush was near the village of Kilmichael in County Cork and was carried out by thirty-six local IRA volunteers commanded by Tom Barry. They killed sixteen members of the RICs Auxiliary Division. It occurred one week after Bloody Sunday and marked an escalation in the IRA's campaign.
