The J-pod lost another orca calf. J42 gave birth to her first calf in October, but when researchers went to check on the kiddo’s development, he was nowhere to be found. This orca pod has been losing calves year after year, thanks to the loss of Chinook salmon runs and toxins in the water.

In #Mexico, #KillerWhales Take Down #GreatWhiteSharks
A pod of #orcas in the Gulf of California has repeatedly hunted juvenile white #sharks to feast on their livers.
Scientists had previously found evidence that killer #whales prey on one of the ocean’s top predators; several years ago, white shark carcasses without livers washed ashore in South Africa. But the behavior had not been documented in Mexico until now.

🌊🐋 Breaking at Sea!
A group of sailors survived a terrifying orca attack — but just hours later, the same pod of killer whales sank a tourist vessel nearby.

📹 Video shows the yacht’s steering wheels spinning violently as orcas rammed the rudder again and again. Marine experts say these incidents are rising, with whales targeting boats more often than ever before.

More than the proverbial🐤 "canary in the coal mine":

This weekend, another endangered female #Orca (named J36) found pushing her dead baby calf in the Salish Sea. Grief 😢.

Previously, J35, another female orca in the J pod, pushed the remains of her two calves: one in early 2025 another one for 17 days in 2018.

There are less than 75 southern resident killer whales remaining.

Center for Whale Research (CWR):

""low reproductive success in this population" is tied to high levels of pollutants — particularly industrial chemicals known as PCBs — that inhibit immune and reproductive function, as well as a lack of prey, especially Chinook salmon, which are orcas' preferred prey."

Marineland orcas: Male 'sexually stimulated' to avoid inbreeding

Wikie, 24, and her 11-year-old son Keijo still don't have a new home despite months of wrangling.

This is the video I was editing & uploading from my campsite yesterday.

(You might have already seen the post from @SookeSailingCoop
about it)

I'm tempted to start editing all the footage of my 3-day sailing trip, but my laptop doesn't have enough battery power to handle that extreme workload.

Batteries: simultaneously a huge boon and a source of great frustration.

While the Discovery channel may be starting their Shark week next Sunday, #MySharkWeek starts with today's #CreatureFeatures for #MyHorrorfest2025 I usually do these #SharkMovies in a couple of days but this year I decided to stretch them the whole week & slip in other #FishTaleFilms & #SeaMonstersMovies starting with the classic Jaws 1975 & Jaws 2 1978 that I have in my collection then over to Tubi to watch Tentacles 1977 & finally on demand a movie I don't think I've seen in a couple of decades Orca: the Killer whale 1977. #Jaws #ShshshShark #SharkMovies #Orca #GiantOctopusMovies #KillerWhales #OrcaMovies
