Deviants Week continues! In case you missed it, be sure to check out my 9th Listening Log for free, in which I cover multiple releases from members of the North Carolina collective. Today we’re diving into the latest self-produced single from Khalil Nasim, which was released on August 26th this year.

I feel like Khalil has the most Southern vibe out of all the Deviants, which is something I really appreciate. I feel like a collaboration with Big Gucci Krow would be really great. This beat kinda reminded me of the type of stuff Krow makes. The melody of the instrumental is really smooth, so this is a really good song to smoke to. The verse at the beginning is nice, and I really like the melodic hook a lot as well.

Highway see me more than anybody, I be forth and back
I keep that burner on me 'cause a nigga can't afford to lack
My hands not clean, my friends tell me make some good decisions
They like older brothers, know I'm twisted, but got good intentions
Please excuse my drawl, but I was hidin' heritage for too long
I'm breakin' free, I got to sing a new song

The track is just under two minutes long, so it kinda feels like an interlude, but not in a bad way. I just feel like I will probably enjoy it more within the full context of an album or EP. With that said, there’s not really anything in particular that I didn’t like about the song. I guess this song probably would’ve benefitted from a second verse, but it’s still very enjoyable as it is. I really dig this one. Check it out and let me know what you think in the comments below. I think it’s dope.
